Teach for Mongolia fellowship program

Our program empowers young industry leaders to significantly impact education by serving as primary teachers for two years in secondary schools located in rural areas with teacher shortages, thereby addressing inequality and improving access to education.

WHAT TO EXPECT

ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM

Admission to the program is announced each March. If you successfully pass the initial application stage, you will be invited to the second selection stage, which consists of:

  • Interview

  • Teaching practice

  • Group project

  • General knowledge test

SUMMER PROGRAM

Selected participants will join the Teach for Mongolia summer program, which spans 5 to 7 weeks.

  • TFM theory of Leadership, Theory of Change

  • Foundations of teaching, theory and methodology

  • Teaching practice

  • 5 skill training for TFM learners

  • Innovative teaching methods

  • Living and adapting to rural areas

  • Various personal development courses and guest speakers

WORKING AS A TEACHER IN RURAL AREAS

Participants who successfully complete the summer program will begin teaching at a rural school with a teacher shortage starting the following September 1st. During the program, you will receive:

  • Monthly instructional training and support

  • Monthly guest speaker

  • “Mentor teacher” program to get advice from experienced teachers

  • Counseling

  • A mentorship program from every field

  • English club

  • Advice of continuity to study at Master’s level after the program

JOIN THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Upon successfully completing the two year program, young participants will become members of the Teach for Mongolia Alumni Association, enabling them to continue making impactful contributions to education across various fields. Additionally, they will join the global network of the Teach for All international association, which operates in over 60 countries. This affiliation offers significant career advantages and opens doors to numerous opportunities in diverse areas.

  • Can a non-teaching professional participate in the program?
    Of course it is possible. We are looking for young leaders in teaching and non-teaching professions, and in cooperation with a professional organization, we will provide you with a free teacher conversion program based on your bachelor's degree in the appropriate subject area.
  • What are the main eligibility criteria for the program?
    To apply for the program, you must have a bachelor's degree, regardless of field. The most important thing is that you have a genuine desire to increase access to education, challenge yourself to be a part of change, and create positive change in your society.
  • Is there an age limit?
    None
  • How will the selection be made?
    The selection will consist of 2 main parts and the final result will be based on aggregate marks and individual interview. Stage I : Online Application and Essay Phase II: Team work, case exercises Stage III : Individual interview
  • I registered for the program last year, can I register again this year?
    It will happen. However, the fact that you have submitted your application in the second year of the program will not give you any advantage during the selection process.
  • How long will the exam take?
    The period for accepting program materials will be 1 month after closing (III/31).
  • Why is the program for 2 years? Is it possible to contribute by teaching local children for a shorter period of time and remotely?
    Unfortunately, no. Teach for Mongolia is an official member of the Teach for All international association, which has branches in 62 countries around the world, and this program is held for the same 2-year period in all branch countries. Creating any changes requires time and sacrifices, and according to international experience, 2 years is a good time for the young people of the program to adapt to the local area, identify problems and create solutions. Although 2 years may seem long to some people, if we look at your career in the long term, these 2 years will be a very productive journey for you, where you have challenged yourself in every aspect and created real positive impact and results in your society.
  • What is a summer program?
    The Teach for Mongolia program is open to teachers and non-teaching professionals who have never lived in the community before. Therefore, those young people need basic theory, methodology, practice of teaching, leadership skills, personal development, physical and psychological health, adaptation to rural areas, and creating an impact in that area. is an intensive course that provides all kinds of information in a short period of time.
  • How long is the summer program?
    The summer program is organized for 4-6 weeks, and the participant selected for the program is required to attend the training.
  • What lessons will I teach?
    In accordance with your general knowledge and your bachelor's degree, you will determine which subjects to teach and which subjects to participate in the teacher conversion program in cooperation with the professional organization. (For example: IT engineer - Informatics teacher, Economist - Mathematics teacher, Sociologist - Social science teacher, etc.)
  • Get a teacher's salary?
    Yes. The program participant will enter into an employment contract with the assigned local school and be paid the base salary of a teacher. In addition, you can receive local increments, skill and other increments and bonuses according to the appropriate procedure.
  • Is there any help or support needed during the teaching process?
    We will assign a consultant teacher from the school we are visiting to give necessary instructions and advice to our program participants, and Teach for Mongolia will regularly organize innovative teaching methods and other necessary trainings every month. Also, during the 2 years of the program, you will participate in the online teacher professional conversion program and acquire the necessary theoretical and methodological knowledge.
  • If I pass the program, will I teach elementary or middle school?
    Classes will be held for middle and high school students or 6th-12th grade students.
  • Can you choose your destination?
    Since our main goal is to reach out to areas with shortage of teachers, including the children of Sumatra, we base our distribution on teacher shortage data rather than individual preferences.
  • Traveling alone to your assigned community?
    We send 2 or 3 participants as a team to the same locality or to the same school for the purpose of "Buddy system" or to help each other and work as a team.
  • Will you go to the local area and provide accommodation?
    Yes. The accommodation of the program participant will be arranged by the local school and the local administration.
  • Where will you live in the locality?
    We operate in rural areas, especially Sumad, so please note that your accommodation may vary depending on the local conditions. (Eg: Dormitory, house, Mongolian home, apartment, etc.)
  • Will there be a contract if I'm selected for the program?
    Yes. We conclude a contract/offer letter with the participants of the program, which includes the procedure for contact (protection of children's rights, etc.) and the rights and obligations of the parties. In addition, a quadripartite agreement is signed with local cooperating schools and the General Department of Education, defining the scope of cooperation, the rights and obligations of the parties.
